Sophie and I had our last outing for a while at the end of October, and we went to visit a park in Gateshead to see some Autumn colour, hopefully at least.
The Watergate Colliery pictured at the top there, started out in the 1800’s, and was finally shutdown in 1917. Unlike Washington, which as we saw last week got it’s own museum, Watergate was left alone until reclamation work began in the 1990’s, and the site was transformed into a recreational park having a series of trails and paths that take you through woodland, around the lake and through wildflower meadows.
It was a bit chilly, but still a nice day with some sunshine now and again, and we did get some autumn colours. I had my Fuji and my contax with me but have yet to finish the roll on that, so here are the few I took with the Fuji.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath. Michael Caine
So there we are. Not sure if Autumn has gone and Winter arrived yet, I can’t tell because of all the bliddy rain we’re having, and the forecast is for 2 weeks of it!
Stay tooned dear reader!

It’s nice they turned it into a park. And the ducks approve! Are you going to visit all these places in the winter?

Depends on the weather really, still got a couple of 12thC churches on the list.

I was surprised to see the deer. Are they very common in your area?

Yes there’s lots of woodlands in Northumberland and a whole herd at Raby Castle in Teeside so we’re not short of them.

Lots and lots of deer where we are. So when are we seeing the carpet snaps?

That’s a great use for a disused colliery. Lovely quotes and photos, FR.

When I feel like whining and complaining about my work, I try to think of people who have/had really difficult and dangerous job – like shoveling coal underground. Puts answering annoying emails from the boss in perspective.
I love that they made it a park, and love those great shots of the snow white swan. I’ve only seen a few in real life, and they’re gorgeous.

Thanks Melanie, swans are very regal, I do like them a lot!

Hope the weather warms up so you can give us more of your artwork, but if it is too chilly you can find more of those great quotes to go with your fotos.

Loved those close ups of the mallard, but the photo that really did it for me was sunshine and doom cloud. I’ve always loved witnessing that combination when it happens. The contrast is gorgeous!

Jolly fine pictures Fraggle. Autumn indeed. Over here we had our first night frost AND even snow! Wet snow, I must add, half rain half slushy white stuff, but still. I was in a company with also little children and they squeeked like exited mice: Sneeuw, sneeuw! (pronounced: snaiwww 🙂 ) And I felt like being 3 years old again myself.

How lovely! It’s been a few years since we’ve had proper snow, I miss it!

A one-time area of hustle and bustle turned into a beautiful park to enjoy nature is brilliant. Well done, Fraggle!

Looks very pretty in autumn. Winter has started late here, the leaves didn’t properly start falling off the trees until the backend of November. That said, it’s snowing today ☃️
