On with the flowerfest!
They’ve managed to have a Great Crested Newt or 2 in one of the ponds. This threatened creature has suffered a massive decline and is now legally protected. It can be easily identified as it is our largest newt and the males have vivid breeding colours. Not that you can see those on my rather blurry photo, but I’m including it anyway as they are rare as rocking horse poo due to young boys back in the day hoying them out of the water and taking them home in a plastic bag, where of course they died.
So that’s the end of our flowerfest, but stay tooned for whatever comes next.
Lovely – we have both rhododendron and lilac in our garden, along with a massive deep red peony. Broom unfortunately was introduced here from Europe many years ago, and unfortunately found things here to be so much to it’s liking, it is a declared pest and very difficult to control. Like gorse! We have a small plot of land that is infested with broom!

I have only ever come across it in formal gardens, but canβt blame it for preferring NZ π but I get that must be annoying when you donβt want it!

I was turned into a newt once by a witch. But I got better.

Was the non-scarecrow there just for flavor, or did it have cameras in its eyes keeping track of all the visitors?

Flavour I think, though I think having cameras in its eyes would be cool!

I just had a google and they are not in Ireland, but you do have a newt, known as the smooth newt, or common newt, but it isn’t that common either. Cheers Clare!

They used to mock Ken Livingtone for breeding newts at one time.

Not sure if you tweaked those photos in post-processing, but I don’t think you can beat the Fuji chips for colour rendition straight out of the camera.
Best wishes, Pete.

What a gorgeous floweriest! The colors are so vivid and the angel’s tears appear so delicate.
Sorry to hear those newts are so endangered, but I love the expression “rare as rocking horse poo.” I’ve got to remember that one, LOL!

Perfect flower photographs. Happy for the newt, surely its population will recover, and with luck they won’t unleash a revenge upon us he he

Fraggle, these are breathtaking. I particularly appreciate the first one. With those colors, it must have been hard to get such a perfect shot. But you really did.
Oh, I’m considering a different, blog idea for when the Armadillo Files ends several weeks from now. (I think there will be 5 or 6 episodes after today’s.) I’m thinking about asking photographers to send me one of their favorite photos as a prompt for a weekly story. I may or may not connect them together as a serial. I’m still just kicking the idea around. Would you be interested in participating?
Hugs on the wing.
