It’s been a (long) while since I did a Fraggle Curated post, so as I have a spare day off this weekend I thought why not do an extra post and add to the other ones which, if you haven’t seen them before can be found HERE.
“Castles are Forrests of stones” ~ George Herbert
“Even castles made of sand, fall into the sea, eventually.” ~ Jimmy Hendrix
“Don’t live in the castles; freedom is in the fields! But I can also say: Don’t live in the fields; security is in the castles!” ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
“There is no castle so strong that it cannot be overthrown by money“. ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero
“A ruin should always be protected but never repaired – thus may we witness full the lingering legacies of the past.” ~ Walter Scott
“When we look at the ruins, we always get the same feeling: It’s as if the ruin will suddenly come alive and tell its own interesting story!” ~ Mehmet Murat ildan
“It is as easy to create a castle as a button. It’s just a matter of whether you’re focused on a castle or a button” ~ Esther Hicks
“If you are delighted to be in ancient ruins, you are either a curious historian or a romantic person!”~ Mehmet Murat ildan
“The splendour falls on castle walls And snowy summits old in story: The long light shakes across the lakes, And the wild cataract leaps in glory. Blow, bugle, blow, set the wild echoes flying, Blow, bugle; answer, echoes, dying, dying, dying”. ~ Alfred Lord Tennyson
The home to everyone is to him his castle and fortress, as well for his defence against injury and violence, as for his repose. ~ Edward Coke
“Have fun storming the castle.” ~ William Goldman (The Princess Bride)
There’ll be a part 2 at some point 🏰 🙂
Lovely. I wish the sky had been that colour the day I went to Richmond Castle.

Didn’t Herbert spell forests with one R? Ben’s castle is the best one!

Apparently not, I did wonder but I found with two R’s and who am I to correct Herbert?

You get my vote for Curator of Castles! I don’t know how you did the Barnard Castle shot, but I love it.

Castles come in all shapes and sizes while being full of lore. Of course in the US, we don’t see many. However, there is one near my home that a gentleman built along a small river with the rock from the river.

I’ve never seen a castle in person but I’ve always been enthralled by them. Loved this post and the quotes. I was especially fond of the one by Mehmet Murat ildan.

Great quotes, Fraggle. It is as if the person quoted was looking at the photo when the quote was first said.

Oh how I love this Fraggle. The images are absolutely brilliant. “If you are delighted to be in ancient ruins, you are either a curious historian or a romantic person!”~ Mehmet Murat ildan ~ I think I might be both! I find castles endlessly fascinating. Looking forward to Part II. Hugs, C

Nice quotes and castle shots. The only castles here in Canada are Prairie castles, and apparently, there aren’t that many of them left!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haven’t heard of those. Do they have prairie dogs for pets do you think?

Haha, I have no idea!
There was an article in the Guardian a couple of years back about the plight of Canadian prairie castles: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/17/canada-prairie-castles-cathedrals-battle-to-save

Whenever I see a castle I just think about the amount of labour that went into making them. Just boggles the mind.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, can’t think it could be done now. Though we probably don’t need any more.

Definitely couldn’t be done. I remember thirty or forty years ago reading about how restoration projects on old stone churches in the U.S had to bring in workers from Poland because nobody in the States had any idea how to work with the materials anymore.

I mean, it could be done as a special for the History Channel or something. But only as that kind of a stunt.
