Well maybe not perfect, but it helps make you improve. The Sunday challenge this week is ‘High Key’, so I bought some freesia’s and had a go at some high key photography. There are plenty of tutorials on the interweb but most involve studio lights of some description, but I don’t have any, so as there was a bright sun this afternoon (though it’s still cold out 😦 ) I set up in the conservatory with my trusty lightbox, the XT1 and 60mm macro on a tripod and had a go. Getting the exposure right in camera is most important and getting it right without over exposing the subject is the key to it all. Which I guess makes it easier if you have a light to illuminate the subject. Still I think these came out OK for a first attempt.
Also I am quite impressed with the macro lens, I don’t think it’s as bad as the reviews I read make out, and I’m really happy I didn’t fork out for the mighty expensive zeiss lens and got the 2nd hand fuji at 1/3 of the cost.

of course Skye had to sit in the lightbox so was hoofted out and she sat on the table to watch the goings on,

anyway tomorrow I’m off out on a photography trip to Prudhoe Castle with my pals Mike & Sophie, really looking forward to it 🙂

Beautiful set of photographs! Wish they were ‘scratch & sniff’ though 😉 I think I like the top photo best, even with the loss of detail. A great bonus to scroll down and find cat feet.

The second is, among all winners, my favourite. It makes me remember the scientist illustrations with watercolours I liked to see and read when child.

I refuse to make a decision. I like all of them. May be a tendency to #4 because it looks as stolen from a beautiful alien world. But the difference is too small to make it the winner. 🙂 Reinhold

Very good! The high-key work with the plain background really makes the subject stand out – they look like illustrations for a book 🙂
